The eastern
block of the proposed 2-block Denver Justice Center complex, this block
would hold the jail, otherwise known as the Pre-Arraignment Detention
Facility, consisting of 1,503 cells in a 4-story building totaling 508,000
SF.

status: Construction expected to begin March 2007 with completion
scheduled for August 2009. Demolition of the Rocky Mountain News
Building started in February 2007.

This block
is currently occupied by the Denver Newspaper Agency building, formerly the
Rocky Mountain News building, until the DNA's new building is finished in
2006 (see
Block 244 & 267 in the Upper Downtown subarea). The city
purchased this block in anticipation of building a proposed new Justice
Center on the block. This block will hold the Detention facility part of the complex.
