This
block sits right across the street from Coors Field and adjacent to some of
the best blocks in Lower Downtown, but its prime location has not yet
prompted its redevelopment into something other than a parking lot.
The entire block is owned by the Denver Metropolitan Major League Baseball
Stadium District, the entity that owns Coors Field. Purchased at the
time of the land acquisition for the stadium, the baseball district
apparently feels this block's value lies in its ability to provide close-in
parking for Rockies games, and nothing else.
A
redevelopment that includes a parking garage would serve the same purpose
but with ground-floor retail and other uses added above would contribute to the
vitality and urban character of the area. |
