I think our crane count will not be higher come DNC time. The Zi loft crane went down this week and Sugar3 and 1LP will likely be down by August too.

In the meantime we don't have that many sites under construction with no crane right now. Maybe 1800 Larimer, maybe Tabor 2, maybe the hotels by the convention center or something in the CPV will get going quickly. It seems more likely that we will have a handful of sites that have broken ground, but are not at the level where they need a construction crane.

It is hard to imagine four new cranes popping up between now and the summer (if Denver is going to beat the current total).

I'd love to be wrong though.

Ken,

All of the cranes seem to be concentrated in the areas immediately adjacent to Central Downtown or along 14th. Any thoughts on why more infill hasn't occurred along 17th, 18th, and 19th?

The shot down Blake Street is amazing! I can't believe how much Denver has changed over the last 20 years! Downtown in the late 80s/90s was not someplace anyone would want to be after 6 pm. It's great to see progress!

The Contractor at 14th and Wynkoop may not be able to get or afford a tower crane right now. They are getting very hard to come by. the demand has sent most of them to Dubai or China. The Clintons already are big on Denver. Bill had his Summit of the 8 here in the 90's at the DPL. The Pope was here in the early 90's for World Youth Day. Denver has had some great publicity in the past. But the DNC will be nice.

Who would you rather have come to Denver this September for the DNC to be impressed by all our construction sites? Hillary or Obama?

I'm thinking Clinton is more of the economy person and it would be better to plant a seed in her head that Denver is the next big place for urban growth. But then again, I like Obama for a whole set of other reasons. And he's certainly more popular here in Colorado, with our young age demographic and high proportion of independents.

In either case, I'm sure both candidates will be in town for the convention. These cranes are going to look great for the DNC!

And while it might be bad for the Democratic party to have a brokered convention, it would be great for Denver with thousands of people here and all eyes on the most media-relevant political convention in decades. I hope Denver didn't get more than it bargained for if a close nomination means far more people come to Denver for a far more intense convention than expected - as things are shaping up to turn out!
