Anybody else notice that they haven't done a thing to the top 15-20 floors of the 4-seasons in over a month? Anybody have any idea why? Did the foreign investors' b-holes tighten a bit? I hate to see a 1/2 skeleton sitting there in or skyline!

Okay, fair enough, the tower does look great.

I think the top of it is going to look a just a little bit different from that rendering, since that image is older than a physical model I've seen photographed that was released later with some changes to it.

In the new version, the glass extends higher on the penthouse level, and the level covers more of the crown. It makes the crown a little less impressive but includes more glass, which I think is a fair trade.

While the vast majority of the tower is very consistent rendering to rendering, different images have shown the crown and spire changing the most, so I'm excited to see what it actually comes out looking like.

I just read in the Post that Calatrava is on the design team for the DIA Fastrax station. I am thrilled that Denver will be adding another design by a world class architect. Also, the Four Seasons is positively contributing to its corner of the skyline much more than I imagined it would. It will look fantastic when it is completed.

Hope you didn't just get your dad fired Conrad! Maybe you better post anonymously next time you spill client info.

As for that info, it seems pretty dubious. Not sure why they would scrap the plans and build a commercial property (and a park of all things). The commercial market is hurting too, and libraries and museums aren't exactly cash cows either. Financially it would seem the best thing is to let it continue to sit vacant and hope the market comes back enough to proceed with the original plan.

The Bell Tower design and approval process was very expensive, and I certainly wouldn't throw that money away just yet. Paradise Land Company seems content to sit on surface parking lots for many, many years, so why change strategy now.

@Conrad Smith:

Curious - does your father's firm want their client's information open to the public? Isn't that information privileged? Usually developers are very serious about keeping hopes of their project alive until the very day they formally announce that it has been cancelled.

Also, why would they be scrapping something that wouldn't be complete for at least 3 years during a recession that is unlikely to last more than 1 year longer?

Finally, what bearing does the "surplus in housing" have on this tower when Geller himself described it as being in a different league, the units millions of dollars more expensive than the highest-priced units in Denver right now, and with less than a couple dozen units in the entire tower? He said himself that most of the buyers would be from Asia and not part of the local market.

Geller was out promoting the tower just a few months ago, and the economy was no better earlier this year than it is now. I'm confused as to why this bomb would drop so suddenly when we were full-speed-ahead from 2 years ago till this Spring.

Conrad,

Seems odd considering Buzz was on here just a few of months go discussing the results of the review board. I mean have things gotten that much worse since March? If anything it looks like things are improving.

My father is an attorney in the firm representing Buzz Geller's management corporation and the Bell Tower is officially scrapped because of the down economy. The housing demand has dropped by over 77% in Downtown Denver since the 3rd quarter of last year and there is too great a surplus of housing so the Bell Tower is not going to be built. Instead, the plans are being revised to have a 5 floor low-rise of commercial space that will likely house a library/museum and the remaining parcel will be a park. There will be more news released about this in the next few weeks. Its too bad, I was also hoping to see the Bell Tower rise.
