DenverInfill Does Transit

Transit is a huge part of the success of any great city. Here in Denver we have a great light rail system, an extensive bus system, and there are plenty of transit improvements planned and under construction. So with transit being such a important element of urbanism, it’s something we need to cover here at the DenverInfill Blog. To that end, I’m happy to welcome Ryan Mulligan as the newest DenverInfill Blog contributor. Ryan is a transit planner and rail advocate here in Denver and he’ll be focusing on FasTracks and anything else that’s transit related… although Rick will continue to be the go-to guy for Union Station updates. Welcome, Ryan!

Welcome Ryan. I am looking forward to your contributions. Ever since the Kevin Flynn weblog stopped posting, I have been without transit news.

Could we get some rail from Colorado Springs to Ft. Collins? I was pretty miffed when they stopped the bus route. And it was ALWAYS full! Well, when I took it.

Which, btw, when I was in Turkey, they had a couple pretty long distance light rails. There was a light rail line from Izmir to Selcuk, which was easily the distance from Denver to CO Springs.

FREX still runs – I see them outside my office all the time. So at least you can get from Denver to the Springs.

Welcome Ryan! (I too miss Kevin Flynn. *sniff*)

Ken says you’re a Transit Planner — where do you work?

Looking forward to seeing your reports – particularly as Commuter Rail develops in Denver. I’ve always liked trains BUT am more ‘intermodal transit’ aware since working my way through graduate school by driving a bus for the University of Maryland’s shuttle system.

    What is Mr. Mulligan’s background?

Just for anyone interested, Slate Magazine is running a really cool column called ‘Nimble Cities’. They are taking submissions for great ideas ‘encompassing design, engineering, land use, politics, economics, and psychology’. Give it a look. It is a natural fit for DenverInfill.
