Cesar Chavez Moderization Update

Back in November Ken posted renderings and information about the modernization of the Cesar Chavez Federal building. The old parking garage has since been demolished and work on the building has begun.

On this project there are two cranes being used as you can see in this picture. The crawler crane (right) is being used for the parking garage construction and the tower crane (left) is being used for the building.

The new parking garage is now 2-stories up. It will be a total of 7-stories.

The North side of the building’s curtain wall has started to be taken down. As you can see, temporary partitions are being installed since the building is open during the reconstruction.

For construction schedules, news and much more on this project, give their website a visit. This project not only will make this building better for the environment but will also compliment some of the new projects in the Civic Center area as far as visuals are concerned.

1099 Osage Update #3

Since my last post in May, we found out that the South Lincoln Redevelopment gained funding and 1099 Osage is one of many buildings in that development.

The tower crane has been taken down and the building is starting to take form quickly.

Compared to what this project looked like back in May, it is no longer just a shell. Siding and windows are now being installed.

Looking down Osage Street this building has quite the street presence with more of similar size to come in this area.

Just across the intersection on 11th and Osage Street, there are plans to build a community pool. Crews were busy getting that underway.

The South Lincoln Redevelopment has acquired $22 million from HUD and there will be continued coverage of this area on DenverInfill. Here is once again the rendering for the entire site:

As you can see 1099 Osage is only a small portion of this entire development but a great start to this entire project.

Denver Union Station Update #71

I have more specific information about the temporary discontinuance of light rail access to Union Station and the start-up of the new light rail station and mall shuttle station.  On Saturday, July 23, light rail lines C and E will end at the 10th and Osage station. As has been mentioned in this blog several times, RTD will run buses from 10th and Osage to Union Station.

Early on Monday, August 15, the new light rail and mall shuttle stations will open.  Those two stations will be the first elements of the giant project to become operational. There will be pedestrian access to the stations from the city side via 16th and 18th streets, and from Riverfront Park via the Millennium Bridge and the Union Gateway Bridge. There will be a sidewalk along the light rail tracks connecting 16th and 18th streets.

The following photo is not related to the Union Station project, but it is a pretty good shot of downtown that’s worth sharing. I took it at 7:35PM yesterday from my balcony. I wonder if that beautiful cloud was the source of the storm warnings northeast of Colorado Springs last night.  (Click on the photo to enlarge it.)

Highlands Projects Update

From large to small there are a lot of housing projects under development in the Highlands Neighborhood. Today we will be looking at five of them sprinkled throughout the neighborhood.

First off we will start with a project located on the corner of Zuni and Caithness Place: Highland Park. This project has also been named the “Core Power Yoga” since Core Power Yoga will be the main commercial anchor. Back in February, Ken made a post with renderings and details which can be found here.

It appears most of the foundation work is done.

Looking down from the other side of the project, there is a great view of downtown.

As I was walking up Zuni, I stumbled across a project titled Zuni VI Townhomes; it is located at 32nd and Zuni Street.

From what I gathered on the sign and their website, they are going to be three bedroom, four bathroom units with rooftop decks. There will be six units in total with ground floor office space.

So far not much progress has been made but there is activity on the site.

This next townhome project is located just south of 32nd and Vallejo Street; named Vallejo Street Townhomes. This is a ten unit project. Renderings and details can be found on the project’s website.

It looks like this project is almost complete.

Even though the front of the project is covered by trees in this shot, you can see what the back side is going to look like.

Next up there is a project nearing completion on 34th and Tejon Street. This project also has a website which can be found here. It looks like this is the first phase of townhomes in this project.

Looking from the backside, workers were installing appliances in one of the units. I asked one of the workers if I could get a glimpse at one of the units but they wouldn’t let me in.

There isn’t much around the 34th and Tejon Street intersection. This building adds quite a presence in the area.

Last but not least we are going to look at the Highland Crossing Final Phase. Back in April I did an update and it has come along nicely since then.

It appears the name for this phase is Prospect on Central. It looks like the building is topped out and the siding is being installed.

Looking at the project from the other side you can see how far up Kensing Court it goes.

Looking down from 17th Street you can see there is a great view of downtown.

Looking down from Kensing Court, you can see there will be some spectacular views of downtown from these residences.

There are a lot of little projects in Denver’s neighborhoods that all contribute to the urbanization of Denver and provide great infill taking away one empty lot after another.
