Recently, there have been many great things going on over at the Museum Center + Art Hotel project. The 9-story building has recently topped out and we are beginning to see the first exciting element on the facade: the glass curtain wall on the office portion is starting to go in!
One thing I noticed about this project is that it’s much thinner than I originally imagined. This building sits on a very small footprint and makes great use of it with very creative architecture.
This 9-story building has a huge impact along Broadway, especially with the History Colorado Center right across the street. With this new building, Broadway, between 12th and 14th Avenue, has dramatically urbanized in the recent years and features the some of the most unique buildings in the city.
The Museum Center + Art Hotel is an all around fantastic project for the Golden Triangle. Not only is the design outstanding, but it fills one of the ugliest parking lots in the neighborhood!
Great project!! I was heading down Broadway today and it makes a huge difference at street level. Any news on phase 2 of Denargo Market or the apartments @ 6th & Grant? I saw some new equipment in place and fresh dirt being moved around.
Stay tuned for 6th and Grant, I have a post for that project later this week. As far as Denargo, I didn’t make it out there this weekend but we’ll be covering it in the near future.
Cool, Thanks!
HI Dave,
I also noticed dirt/equipment behind the first phase of Denargo. Also, Backyard on Blake seems to be a new development on Blake (btw 30th and 31st) and also more dirt/equipment/fence on Blake and 33rd St/34th St, in addition to the 3 repurposing buildings on Market. Lots of activity going on
Thanks to Jerry G’s link in the previous post, I was able to read through the Denver Planning Office’s run-up to a new Neighborhood Plan for the Golden Triangle. What pops out of it all, to me, is the very wise attention given to the “Grand Boulevards” — Speer, Colfax and Broadway-Lincoln — which not only embrace the Triangle, but emphasize the city’s recognition that it’s the Big Streets that mostly define our continuous street-wall experience, as the city we know.
Speer, the grandest, most scenic drive through Denver, from old North Denver along Federal, becoming First Avenue, east to Cherry Creek and Glendale. Let’s build a streetcar line along there, and beyond. Let’s ride streetcars from Speer east along Colfax Downtown, to the Anschutz Medical Center, the 225 Light Rail line, and beyond to old Downtown Aurora. And let’s consider a Broadway-Lincoln line, from Denargo Market and north to Globeville along Brighton, and south all the way to Englewood and Littleton.
Make Denver unique by building up the Grand Boulevards with streetcars. Not impossible. It’s actually been done before — and then torn up for cars, since WW2! A hundred years ago, streetcars ran along most of the same routes, and the Big Streets thrived. Our sense of identity and location in Denver hasn’t changed, so let’s make places like our Museum District the center of our universe, by restoring our Grand Boulevards to their max, with streetcars. The Art Hotel just a taste of what can be done along the sidewalks of our Big Streets.
The one thing from that GT plan is when does it start to get underway? 11th needs a bike lane sooner than later.
Great project!
Hey Ryan, Brian Lantzy from Shift here. Do you have any idea what is going in at the corner of 8th and Sherman?
Hey Brian! I have a post on 8th and Sherman coming this week. It’s going to be a 5-story mixed use building.
Great post. This project will add so much to the area.
My company OneWall installed the spaceman art piece in the background of a couple of your pics. Would you share a high rez version? Thanks
One parking lot down, so many more to go. I’d love to see more concentrated development of the lots to the East of downtown- it seems like Uptown and the closer areas of Capitol Hill have been a bit slower to develop. It’s a bit embarrassing to have parking lots directly across the street from the state capitol.
Will the hotel have any kind of restaurant/bar on Broadway? I know they are probably pretty limited on space with that site. That would certainly help activate the street more. I seem to remember the old proposal for this site which was taller had a top floor bar space which at this location would’ve had killer views.
I don’t know about anything at street level (one would hope so), but the hotel will have a restaurant/lounge on the 4th floor. A portion of it will be open to the outside (where the crane is placed). More info on the website. http://thearthoteldenver.com
