Cherry Creek is going through another construction boom and this boom is giving the previous boom a run for its money. This week, we are going to focus on Cherry Creek. There is so much going on, our updates might also bleed into next week.
Let’s start off with the Rollnick Hotel, an eight-story, 200-room hotel that is quickly going vertical. The L-shaped concrete structure is now three stories up with work beginning on the fourth. The first two floors of the hotel are double height which will make the eight story building look closer to ten stories. These two floors will house ground floor retail, the hotel lobby, and 4,500 square feet of meeting space.
When viewed from the street level, you can see that the Rollnick Hotel is starting to make a fairly large impact in Cherry Creek North.
The amount of tower cranes and construction going on in Cherry Creek is nothing short of outstanding. Stay tuned for project updates and new project announcements throughout the week.
Cherry Creek rivals the CPV right now for construction. It’s amazing that almost nothing was built for a decade or more in Cherry Creek North and now suddenly its like the entire commercial district is being scraped and rebuilt from the ground up (at least it feels that way with substantial portions of multiple blocks under construction at once).
Cherry Creek art festival is going to be “interesting” this summer with so much space unavailable.
I was talking with the check out person at Bed Bath and Beyond and she said after the store moves in the fall that building will be demolished and replaced with apartments. Has anyone heard of more details? In other Cherry Creek news the shopping area felt really dead when I went despite some great sales. Multiple sales people told me that business is off 20-40% compared to last year due to the pay parking. I wonder if the shopping area will increase the free parking period to 2 or 3 hours.
We need light rail to CC.
The Bed Bath and Beyond news is big news. I figured the western part of the Mall would get developed eventually, but did not expect it to happen so quickly.
And the “paid parking” at the mall was crazy idea. Denver won’t tolerate it, and the mall will have to back down. It was pretty lame – if the focus (as the mall said) was that people were using the parking lot as a permanent parking then focus on that issue. Put up a 3 hour or four hour limit and then tow cars that violated it. Their new high tech parking system supports tracking cars and how long they’ve been parked.
