Cesar Chavez Moderization Update

Back in November Ken posted renderings and information about the modernization of the Cesar Chavez Federal building. The old parking garage has since been demolished and work on the building has begun.

On this project there are two cranes being used as you can see in this picture. The crawler crane (right) is being used for the parking garage construction and the tower crane (left) is being used for the building.

The new parking garage is now 2-stories up. It will be a total of 7-stories.

The North side of the building’s curtain wall has started to be taken down. As you can see, temporary partitions are being installed since the building is open during the reconstruction.

For construction schedules, news and much more on this project, give their website a visit. This project not only will make this building better for the environment but will also compliment some of the new projects in the Civic Center area as far as visuals are concerned.

Ralph Carr Judicial Complex Update #3

In the past month the Ralph Carr Judicial Complex has made noticeable progress.

The steel structure has now covered the elevator core and appears to almost be topped out.

The shorter portion of this project is now 3 stories up out of the total 4 it’s going to be.

The day before I took these pictures they were working on the external elevator.

On this little corner, you can see the type of material they are going to be using on the outside of the building. So far it looks like the base of the building will be different than the rest.

The street presence of this building is significant. This is looking down Broadway from 14th Street.

Back in March Ken posted an article on DenverUrbanism about The New Visual Terminus for 14th Street. Just with the steel skeleton of the complex, it creates an impressive view of the building at a 45 degree angle.

This is one of the larger projects that are going on around downtown right now. I’m impressed by how fast this building has been growing over the past couple months and how much of an impact it has on the Civic Center District.

Save the Date – June 9 for ULI’s Civic Center Event!

The next Urban Land Institute – Colorado “Explorer Series” event is set for June 9, and this is going to be one you won’t want to miss!

The event is “Civic Center Ramble” and will provide participants with an in-depth discussion and walking tour overview of five major projects underway or recently completed in Denver’s Civic Center Park area: the Denver Justice Center, the Clyfford Still Museum, the Better Denver Bond projects in and around the park, the Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Center, and the History Colorado Center.

If that weren’t exciting enough, how about this: the opening panel discussion and the hosted reception afterwards will be taking place inside the new History Colorado Center, which won’t be open to the public until spring 2012. By registering for this event, you’ll have a chance to see the inside of the new museum months before everyone else!

Registration is now open, and both ULI members and non-members are welcome. Please visit this event’s registration page here at the ULI-Colorado website.

Denver Museum Update #2

The Clyfford Still Museum and the History Colorado Center are beginning to take form and look more complete.

Since my last update on the museums, the Clyfford Still has been making quick progress and the outer walls are almost complete.

Clyfford Still-5.1

As you can see in this next photo, the colors and texture of the Clyfford Still somewhat blend with the Denver Art Museum. There isn’t much contrast between the two.

A couple blocks up over at the History Colorado Center, the exterior is starting to look complete. It looks like all the glass has been put in and all there is left on the exterior is the roof.

The parking structure is almost complete behind the museum as you can see on the far right of this picture.

There are a lot of projects going on in and around Downtown Denver. Don’t forget to stop by and even take a walking tour of the largest project going on right now, Denver Union Station! Next up, we will be taking a look at 1099 Osage and see how far it has been coming along.

Ralph Carr Judicial Complex Update #2

Since my last update in March, the Ralph Carr Judicial Complex has made significant progress.

The elevator core has topped out and the steel skeleton is making its way to the top quickly.

RalphCarr-4.22-2

The 4-story portion of this project is now halfway up.

RalphCarr-4.22-3

As you can see below, it will be one of the tallest structures in the Civic Center area and will have quite an impact on the Civic Center skyline.

This project is accelerating quickly and soon we will be able to see what the materials look like that cover the steel skeleton.

Denver Museum Update

There are two museums being built in Denver’s Civic Center district: The History Colorado Center and the Clyfford Still Museum.

The History Colorado Center is located on 12th and Broadway. Here are some current photos of this project underway.

As you can see, they’ve engraved ‘History Colorado’ in the brick. This is the Broadway side of the museum.

Here’s the museum on the 12th Avenue side.

CoHistoryCenter2

On the Lincoln side it looks like some finishing touches are being done.

CoHistoryCenter3

Behind the History Colorado Center, a parking structure is being constructed as you can see here.

CoHistoryCenter4

Three blocks away right behind the Denver Art Museum, the Clyfford Still Museum is making nice progress.

A lot of projects have taken off around the downtown area. Next we’ll take a look at 1099 Osage.
