The section of the Highland district east of Tejon/Umatilla, often called Lower Highland, sits on the bluff overlooking Downtown and is currently enjoying a surge of historic renovations and new infill projects. This part of Highland also contains the northwestern tip of the diagonal Downtown street grid, with Central, Boulder, and Erie Streets being the last of the Downtown named streets that begin at Colfax and Broadway with Cheyenne Place. The new Highland Bridge that spans Interstate 25 extends the 16th Street pedestrian corridor from the Central Platte Valley into Highland. A vibrant retail and entertainment area has developed around the block bordered by 15th, 16th, Boulder, and Central Streets and pairs nicely with the Platte Street retail district on the other side of the bridge in the Central Platte Valley. Most of the new development in this part of Highland consists of townhome and smaller condominium projects in scale with the surrounding historic structures.
