A few days ago, the main span for the new 18th Street Pedestrian Bridge that will connect the Central Platte Valley and Union Station districts, was hoisted into place. My friend Rick got the shot from his condo nearby:
The new bridge should be ready for use by the end of the year.
The more intergration between both sides of the tracks the better. Is there an elevator, or just stairs? Just wondering if it is bike friendly. Also do you know if the new development at Union Station will attempt to make the sides of the new buildings facing the tracks attractive. I am just wondering what will happen to the city views in Glass House and neighboring projects. I'm hoping the side facing the tracks will not all be parking garages, trash bins, power boxes and windowless walls. I will try to remain optimistic. It is such a great opportunity.
Does anyone know Who paid for this? I really hope it was not all funded by tax payers. It's nice but not really necessary yet. This reminds me of suburban sprawl; we have so many downtown parking lots needing to be developed and without needing bridges to get to them!
your friend must like the sound of trains:-)
I think this bridge is being installed by the Millenium bridge neighbourhood request. They must be tired of all the skateboarders going to their park all day long.
I believe the bridge is funded by the Commons Metropolitan District–in other words, the property owners within the district are paying for it.
The best news about this bridge when complete…. it leads you to the doorstep of the Wynkoop Brewing Company, owned by the Major.
That's special.

I live near 38th/Lipan and am quite happy to have another bridge to LoDo and beyond. Hey naysayers… it's called integration. Integrate the neighborhoods for people who choose to walk. I can now avoid the "illegal" after midnight walk through Millenium Park. Thank you Commons Metropolitan District.
Hickenlooper divested himself from the Wynkoop years ago. And this bridge only gets you over the main railroad line — with Union Station still blocks away, and the brewery on the other side of that. Get your facts straight, chief!
this bridge was always planned as part of the cpv plan. there are finally people living there and integrating more options to get over the cml was always envisioned. there will be office/ retail on the city side of the tracks someday.
i'm not sure how building a pedestrian bridge on the edge of the cbd can be compared to sprawl.
