No golden spikes, not even a little fanfare for connecting two sets of tracks … at least not yet. I took the following photo at about 4:20 this afternoon (Saturday) as crews were connecting the new light rail tracks with the old tracks near the Millennium Bridge.
Lids are going on new structures. Roof work has started on the Chestnut Pavilion. And a round top was placed on the air intake tube for the bus station.
This next item is a bit off topic, but I thought you might enjoy seeing photos of airplane fuselages being shipped by rail. I took the photo at about 6:30 last evening from my balcony as the train passed by the DUS project.
I think those are 737-800’s, but anyone know?
I’m pretty sure they are 737s. I’ve seen them coming up the rails for a few weeks now whenever I drive down Santa Fe Drive. They must be headed to Seattle.
They are indeed 738s heading to Seattle (too short for a 739 and the twin emergency exit doors preclude a 737-700 [aka 73W]). The only sight more amazing is seeing the wings of these workhorses being driven down I-5 in Seattle.
Does anyone know if the Davita building will extend out any further toward 16th now that the tracks are gone? I’m not sure whether they were just hemmed in by the tracks and had to wait until they were removed to have access to the rest of that site.
Dan, yes, the DaVita building’s northwest corner will extend to where the curve in the old light rail tracks was. Now that the tracks have been removed, the missing corner of the building will be built.
Thanks Ken!
Any one know why they took off the top of the Chestnut pavilion plaza after just installing it?
You spotted it! There are quality issues with the material so it was removed. Various remedies are being evaluated.
