Today is another story of going, going, gone. This time, it’s the final blow to the old canopies at the light rail station, at the mall shuttle station, and over the entrance to the recently demolished Union Station passenger tunnel.
Going …
Going …
Gone …
Beautiful series of photos. Thanks.
Weird to think I’ll never board a train there again.
Well, Brennan, you will in about four years!
Thaanks so much for all the recent updates. The last month has been particularly exciting especially at Union Station.
Please tell me all that scrap will be recycled? It pains me to think that we just destroyed perfectly good infrastructure, even if it wasn’t needed any more. It’s just that I’ve started acting like my depression-era grandparents, and everything of value should get saved and re-used.
Rick probably has more details on this, but I’ve heard they are recycling as much as possible.
Scrap metal is worth money so I doubt they’d just throw it away. I think an average car’s scrap is worth something like $500 now so if this was going to a landfill, someone somewhere would step in and offer to reap the rewards of taking it to a recycling center instead.
Toast, don’t worry. Virtually all of it is being recycled. Check out Update #64 for details. https://denverinfill.com/2011/05/union-station-update-64.html
Recycling is one thing and reusing is another. I’ve got to think that a park could have used that large canopy for a covered picnic area.
I’m trying to imagine the craigslist posting for the other items… “Highly motivated seller will trade 75 yards of light rail canopies for Federal transit dollars. Must meet in public place for transaction…”
