A month ago, we posted about the groundbreaking of Union Tower West; a mixed use 100,000 square foot office and 180-room hotel project going up on the corner of 18th and Wewatta Street.
The 12-story project is now fully under-construction, taking up another empty lot in the booming Union Station neighborhood. One picture tells the whole story. Excavation is underway and heavy construction equipment has started to move on site.
For more project details and renderings of Union Tower West, head on over here.
Are there any plans for the gravel pits outside Union Station along Wewatta? The chainlink fences separating the tracks from those gravel areas are quite an eyesore, too.
According to Denver Cityscape a 19 story condo called the Coloradoan is supposed to go opposite of the platform, but I don’t think anyone else has reported on it, so its pretty preliminary at this point.
The developers asked sites to pull that rendering as it initially came from the general contractor’s website but wasn’t intended to be made public as it was a concept project only. Thus, DenverInfill has not posted that rendering or project info.
Now if the City/Excel would spend a little money to spruce up the steam plant… re-skin the metal building as an all smoked glass cube. Let the glass show off the inner working’s of the City’s highly efficient century old heating/cooling system. All that new property tax money should help out. The bridges over I-25 for 20th St and Speer along with the landscaping along I-25 could stand some cosmetic updates also.
I am totally in agreement with you over the landscaping and bridges. They are in disrepair and definitely need attention.
Ryan,
On a different note, do you or Ken know what they are going to do with the old scooter store near Quivas St and W 32nd Ave over in Lohi? Saw some construction going on there the other day. Thanks
