The Saint Francis Apartments at Cathedral Square had its grand opening in February, so let’s wrap up this project with a few photos of the completed building. The six-story development—a joint effort of the Saint Francis Center and St. John’s Cathedral—offers 50 apartments for people who were experiencing homelessness. Located mid-block along the east side of Washington Street between Colfax and 14th Avenue, the four sides of the Saint Francis Apartments feature different geometric compositions. Here’s a tour around the building, starting with the front facade along Washington and working our way around the building clockwise:
Thanks to this project, another surface parking lot has been eradicated from Denver’s urban core and 50 people now have a place to call home. Congratulations to the Saint Francis Center and St. John’s Cathedral on this important new residential community!
Good form… could have been a very visually nice project if there weren’t seemingly random blocks of red and gray all over the place.
Looks like a Star Wars Sandcrawler from one angle
Your argonaut shopping trip just got a little more difficult.
All the more reason for Argonaut to build the parking structure that was originally planned for the corner lot that faces the entrance to the store. Then they (and we) would have parking the way it should be in a dense urban setting: stacked.
I seem to be in the minority here in that I normally prefer an ugly building to surface parking (increased density, repairing the urban fabric, blah blah blah – that stuff’s really important to me). But this thing is just so hideous – it makes me emotional every time I walk by. I just can’t believe how ugly it is. It’s amazing. I try to remind myself there’s a good cause behind it, but it’s still a little hard to take.
In Agreement with TFH. It has a disorganized, uneasy feel to it. Could have been good but isn’t. A mash-up of too many ideas. The good thing is in the program. Some people now have a home.
Not a fan, it’s horrible!
I wonder how many droids that thing is able to pick up a day…….total sand crawler.
