In January,
2006, Toronto-based developer Great Gulf Group announced plans for what
would have become Denver's tallest residential tower located on the surface
parking lot site at the corner of 14th and Lawrence. The project, known as
1401 Lawrence, was first announced at 55 stories and a few months later was
scaled back to 51 stories. The project was to include 145 high-end condo
units designed by Peter Clewes of architectsAlliance. A $1 million sales
center was constructed on the site in Summer 2007 and, later that year, the
developer announced plans to start construction in December 2008. Due to
poor sales and the troubled capital markets, the project was unexpectedly
cancelled in May, 2008.
Despite the cancellation of 1401 Lawrence, the 14th & Lawrence parcel is one
of the best located in Downtown, situated between the Four Seasons and
Larimer Square. |
