Wow. 816 Acoma is more than a disappointment.. Its not very exciting to see things go up that look worse than some of the vacant buildings in the area.

There is nothing worse than another cheap & terribly constructed stucco building to fill the Denver skyline.

I think you're referring to 1200 Elati. And yeah its not great but its not terrible.

How is that this area ended up with so many large architectural duds? The ripples in the stucco in the Elati photo tell it all. The smaller scale stuff is interesting, but yikes those towers and apartment blocks have been disappointing. You would think that between the extremes of the old school and the love it or hate it DAM that this area could have done better. Would rather see that Fentress tower project on Speer moved down here to pick up this area.

816 Acoma looks awesome from the other side though… I just hope something goes up to cover up the Broadway-facing side, which I agree is a bit dumpy.

1200 elati looks horrible. it's a waste of a great location. i think he built it as cheap as possible just to get the affordable housing tax credit. what a shame

I suppose they appeal to some people, but I agree that most of the larger buildings in the Golden Triangle look like the cheaply constructed stucco junk that they through up in California, Nevada, Arizona, and Florida.

1200 Delaware is the best new project in the area. Well done on all fronts. Hopefully more of the housing in the golden triangle will take the townhome approach.

1200 Elati is a travesty; from the cheap windows..to the sloppy stucco job..to the ugly blank wall that looms over Speer. Yikes. The Golden Triangle is looking tacky.

For lack of a better word, 1200 Elati is a disgrace and a waste of land! I hope
they utilize that huge wall facing Speer for giant Bill-Boards, like the ones
you see in NY or LA. It's the perfect spot!

I agree it is already time to tear down 1200 Elati and Piranesi. Don't they have any architectural controls in the neighborhood at all? This area was perfect for masterpieces, and now I can't imagine anyone investing lots of money in at anymore. The one exception is 1200 Delaware which looks awesome. They better not let any of this stucco crap north of Colifax.

    Any news on 1000 Speer?

  12. Saint says:

Yeah, I'm surprised they let that backwall go on the Elati building. Talk about some fugliness driving up Speer. And I doubt anything will rise up to block it, like one can expect in downtown. All the other high rises in the area are the full four sides, why didn't they do full siding?

The better use it for billboard space or something.

  13. BeyondDC says:

Is that really the final skin of 1200 Elati?

Considering the prime local examples are nonsense like 1200 Elati and the Prado, it's no wonder people in Colorado are against non industrial chic forms of traditional architecture.

It doesn't all look like that, folks. It's not *supposed* to look like that.

  14. Tallfreak says:

Who designed 1200 Elati? And who built it? Get them out of town.

  15. Freddie says:

Piranesi looks like a suburban hotel. It should be on Pena Blvd or something.

    1200 Delaware is gorgeous!

1200 Elati is so ugly I just can't believe it. I mean I really just can't believe how ugly that building is. If one were challenged to come up with something uglier it would be awfully difficult. It looks like it's made of wet cardboard. But I'm sure it won't last. If it gets hot enough it might start to melt and they'll have to tear it down.

    816 Acoma…meh…
