While we are still waiting for an official press release, along with renderings of 999 17th Street, construction has, without a doubt, started on this Central Downtown site. To get a feel of what is actually going to go vertical, head on over to our January 2014 post where we posted some public yet very preliminary renderings.
As of this past weekend, we observed that caisson drilling has begun along with the rest of the parking lot getting torn out. Here are two photos of exactly that!
As soon as we get some official details on this project, you will be the first to know!
4S looks mighty fine in that 2nd pic
I was thinking the same thing.
I hope the new renderings show a bit taller office tower in the mix. Granted the 2014 posting looked promising with some real modern design for downtown Denver. The angles on the 9 story building and the parking garage having some artistic features to it.
Chris, we remember seeing a 24-story office tower rendering a few years ago, downsized to 9 stories in 2014. I also hope this developer maximizes this opportunity to build on 17th street frontage, a most premium location.
Looks to be a slightly updated rendering at Shea properties’ website:

This project is one of my favorites, sure it could go taller, it could add something to the skyline, but in the end it is the street level that matters. This project finishes filling in a hole in the urban fabric and will make an amazing difference in the downtown experience not by standing out, but by contributing.
I agree that at street level this has done a very good job. I would like something a bit taller, but alas, if we get something this nice downtown I’ll take it even if it isn’t using the site to is maximum capacity.
