Two days ago I posted a couple of photos of some Lower Downtown and Central Platte Valley projects. Here are a couple more:
Work is moving along quickly on 1900 16th Street, the 17-story office building and parking garage project being developed by Trammell Crow next to the Millennium Bridge. Seems like just a few days ago the groundbreaking was held; now, site excavation is well underway:
Also, I hadn’t yet taken a final “completed project” photo of Denver’s new Museum of Contemporary Art building, so here it is:
It’s a very cool building, and it really doesn’t have a front door!
Finally, the new steps on the west side of the Millennium Bridge are almost finished. Looks like it could reopen possibly later this week.
How does everyone else feel about the couple clear windows scattered throughout? I kind of feel like it looks unfinished. They should all be the same window type… Also; has anyone seen this at night? Does it have that "glow" that was visible in the rendering as I recall?
Some nights you can see a video wall from the street, but no, it doesn't glow [yet].
I think it depends on the installation.
Yah, I don't get the clear glass.
The building is kind of a let down from what the original presentation was.
I just visited the new MCA|D this past weekend and loved it. The simple, but sleek design is a great bridge between Riverfront Park and LoDo. Inside, each gallery and the main lobby are complimented with the vast amount of light that surprisingly comes in through the tinted windows. On top, the rooftop garden and cafe offer one of the most unique views downtown and will be more impressive once Union Station is fully developed.
As a side note, a few of the windows were left untinted due to a few art installations that play off of natural light. I'm assuming once curators replace these installations, the tinted panels will be added to the windows.
Seriously ! the rendering of this project looks a lot
nicer than the actual building, I drive by it everyday and
honesty I see nothing special about its façade, as a matter
of fact, it looks very 80’s, the building doesn’t glow to accentuate it’s design
and the scattered clear windows seems to me a screw-up
in the design. They really should do something to improve the
building’s potential… I have not been inside yet, but Im sure, it is
great !!
You guys are all nuts. This is hands down the best building in Denver. It makes every building look like a big sloppy amateurish mess.
I know this isn't Rome but in any case is there any effort to look for artifacts when digging? Anyone know what was in the CPV before the railyards?
