Here’s a quick update on the status of the two tallest buildings currently under construction in Downtown Denver. Both photos are from yesterday.
First, the 45-story Four Seasons project at 14th and Arapahoe is now a couple of floors above ground level:
The 41-story Spire project at 14th and Champa is now up to Floor 9:
Won’t it be fun watching these two towers race each other into the sky over the next year or so? Assuming one floor per week, the Spire should be up to about Floor 25 and the Four Seasons up to about Floor 18 by the Democratic National Convention in August.
ok, so this isn't really on topic, but I was wondering if we should worry about projects like 1401 lawerence. Will they ever get off the ground now that the economy is failing?
Ken, This is also off topic and you should consider it a rumor but perhaps you know someone you can check it out with. I was talking with someone yesterday who was very close to the 1401 Lawrence project. According to them the project is not going to go forward due to lack of sales. I was somewhat confused because Margaret Jackson, in the Denver Post on March 27, stated in an article that they were raising prices on the project because sales were going well. Perhaps this was just a sales gimmick. It would be too bad to lose this one. I thought it was a nice looking building that would have fit in well with the other high rises in that part of town.

^ Haven't heard that one Bob. They've been saying they won't break ground until December so it seems they would still have some time regardless.
What's with the diagonal/sloped floors on the spire? That seems highly unusual for a high rise. I initially thought they might be wheelchair ramps or stairways but that it doesn't make sense for the slope to span the whole floor.
Oh wait I just figured it out; the first 10 or so floors must be parking garage. Wow, that's a long way up for parking to reach.
yes. they have alot of parking… because we all know how denver has such a shortage of parking.
anyhow… 1401 lawerence was by far my favorite project downtown, and I would be very upset if we lost it.
It is great to have two large projects going on at the same time. If Tabor II and 1401 Lawrence get going this year as well we could have 4 large skyscrapers going at once in 2009.
I talk to the leasing office last week. I was told that groundbreaking for 1401 Lawrence would be sometime in April-May of next year.
That something to go on.
The construction of Four Seasons is progressing nicely. The columns at the construction site above grade support the ceiling for the main floor hotel lobby. It's finished height will be approximately 22' high! Talk about impressive.
Under ground are two levels for hotel maintenance, employee areas, etc. The second level will be 24' high and the third level will have ceiling heights of 20'.
It's possible that the source for my earlier comment intended to say that the project was being "delayed." That would be in line with Kendall's comment. Due to the social situation I was not able to talk further with the person.
Let's hope it only being delayed. It's a great looking building and we can use the additional residents downtown.

lookin good! i really hope that tabor II and 1401 lawrence will get going!
GREAT gulf group was bragging about not needing any sales to start this project at first. Now we hear delay, delay. Take that back to Canada!
To clear up any misinformation about the 1401 Lawrence building, you might want to refer back to John Rebchook's article from November 14, 2007, http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2007/nov/14/details-design-draw-buyers-to-tallest-tower/
It states both a construction timeline and a quote from Great Gulf on pre-sales.
