If you are like me and have not been around Union Station lately, there is some cool, new stuff to see. As you know from some comments on recent posts, the three vent tubes are being installed over the top of the bus terminal’s mechanical rooms. Here is a link to Update #62 which explains how fumes will be gathered and vented. One tube is a vent for bus fumes, another is the fresh air intake, and the third is an emergency exhaust for smoke in case of an underground fire.
I took the photos below from my balcony at about 10:00 this morning. You can see that the third vent tube being assembled in the first photo. The wider shot shows the location of the vent tubes relative to the light rail and mall shuttle stations. Also in the second photo, you can see that the shuttle loop is completely paved.
I wandered around the construction site late yesterday and was impressed with the heightened level of activity. Crews are working very hard to meet the critical August 15 deadline to open the new stations.
Look for more updates over the next couple of days.
Today, I uploaded five photos to our Denver Union Station page at JobSiteVistor.com.
