Let there be light! The lights were turned on a few minutes ago for the first time.
By now you are familiar with the view from my balcony. I was surprised to see that the new station canopies are lit from beneath. The actual view is more attractive than the photo which washes out the scene with too much light.
Exciting! Did anyone get a chance to see the light rail car testing the tracks on Sunday afternoon? I saw it on the denverunionstation.org webcam. Things are coming along quite nicely!
Hey Rick! Why did they stop putting the roof on the Chestnut Pavilion and remove the parts they did put up? Any idea? I was looking at your pic, and todays webcam shot shows nothing on top of the pavilion. Was just curious. Thanks!
Phillip, there were some quality issues with the materials so they removed it. They are evaluating various remedies.
Cool picture — At first glance, looks kind of like a ship docked in a harbor at night.
I thought the exact same thing.
Why is it surprising that the lighting is underneath the canopy? Where else would it go?
Ken,
Any word on the future devlopment of the building that are suppost to go along 17th between the new light rail station and the new rail station. I know you have talked about the new wing builings but I haven’t heard anything about the building on the back side of Union Station. Have the plans been scaled back or are they still going to be those 10 to 15 story builds in the original plan?
Dave, all those sites west of Wewatta are under the control of their owners who will develop them when they believe the market timing is right. In other words, those parcels are not any different than any other undeveloped site in the city. The five development parcels on the DUS property itself (two wing buildings, Block A & B buildings along Wewatta, and the Triangle parcel) are a little different in that they are tied into the financing of the project.
Thanks.
Oh, having said that, however, there are plenty of rumors that several projects west of Wewatta are poised to happen!
Hey Rick,
Thanks for tonight’s update! It’s really helping me keep in touch with the due project far better than the insider emails I get from RTD. My question is if they will use this time that a number of trains are out of service to update the signage and maps to include the West Corridor that will be opening in a little more than a year. Most transit agencies have new lines on the maps well in advance of their opening date, and I assume it’s going to happen sometime. Could you perhaps look into that?
Thanks again,
Brennan
Brennan, that’s a question that is well outside of my scope of knowledge. I have a meeting with RTD on Tuesday. I will rely your question and include the answer in a future blog so you don’t have to keep checking Update #77.
Rick – gotta admit that I envy the view from your balcony! If I ever move to Denver I’d like to live next door to you!
David, thanks. The view is almost too good. It consumes a lot of time everyday.
Can I submit photos of the DUS Light Rail Station to the site? Or, can I mail them to you for your screening and posting? I have some pics of the new light rail station from yesterday that I thought I would share with others.
