Today we are going to visit the Aloft site on 15th and Stout. If any of you remember the old Burger King building that stood empty for many years, it has been leveled and hopefully we will start to see some construction activity soon!
This one picture says it all. We have a construction fence up, and the old structure is nowhere to be found! This also shows where the new Aloft will be nestled in at this intersection, being completely surrounded by three other buildings. That is some true infill!
As a reminder, this will be a 6-story building providing approximately 140 hotel rooms. According to their website, construction should be complete by July 2014.
I wish the old Art Deco styled proposal was getting built on this lot instead.
You would think this hotel would have alot more rooms and be at least 10+ stories. But, at least it is desperately needed infill on 15th St. That stretch of 15th was very ghetto for way to long. Hopefully, the pawn shop will be history sometime soon.
Yay! Man, that fast food joint bugged me for years. And to Corey’s point, this one big step (on a long journey) for the rehab of 15th st in the CBD.
Bets on whether Tom Shane will keep his billboard up for all the Aloft guests to see through their window?
Considering the two older 2 and 3 story buildings adjacent to the parcel. I think this 6 story structure will fit right in. There are enough 20+ buildings in this area… Not saying we shouldn’t have more, but on this parcel… Not neccessary.
Exciting news!
I am happy, I really am that a vacant, run down building with no architectural value has been cleared. But I am sad it will be replaced with another big box building.. of little architectural interest… Sad to see so many square boxes with very little visual appeal..
