Let’s take a quick break from Cherry Creek and head on over to Cheesman Park to check in on the Residences at the Gardens project. Back in January we announced the project and since then construction has commenced.
The first half of the block has been demolished with the second half likely to follow soon. Some trees have been removed from the site but luckily the big trees will be kept.
As a refresher, this project will provide the Cheesman Park neighborhood with 156 units in a 7-story apartment building with units ranging from studio to three bedrooms.
This like watching the murder of old friends.
This isn’t even news worthy. Why is this being posted? I thought the idea of this site was to inform and celebrate the development of good architecture in empty lots or renovation of outdated ones. This is a great building and actually adds character to the neighborhood.
Sad. Capitol Hill loses an entire block of historical signifigance that will be replaced with one fo those hideous modern buildings with no character whatsoever that look like they’re made of mismatched Legos. Shame shame shame on the city officials who approved this.
I didn’t realize the Landmark Preservation Commission designated this part of Cheeseman Park as an historic district. Oh wait, that’s right; they didn’t.
I guess property owners shouldn’t have the right to do what they want with their own property should some arm-chair architect somewhere decide the run-of-the-mill, stereotypical Capitol Hill apartment buildings on their property are somehow “historically significant” and that the proposed development (which in this case is actually more ornate than the buildings it’s replacing) is somehow “hideous”.
Calm down.
