The infill tracker in me never sleeps and now with cameras always accessible, it is much easier to document it all. As my fiancee and I were at the Rockies game last night, I noticed that the second crane for the Z-Block project is now up.
Using the top deck of Coors Field to my advantage, I was able to get a great vantage point of the Z-Block and its new crane. When we covered the new tower crane at 1144 Fifteenth Street, I posted a chart with every tower crane around Central Denver. This second Z-Block crane was included in the count giving Central Denver a total of 17 tower cranes.
Looking towards Denver Union Station, you can now see six tower cranes!
There you have it, 17 tower cranes over Central Denver. Currently, we are not expecting any more to go up but I’m sure, as new projects take off, we will go crane spotting again!
Love the crane action going on!!! But geez, that sure is an ugly parking lot to the right. Are there any plans for that lot?
Great shot Ryan. I wonder whether the parking lot in front of Chop House will ever be developed. That’s a valuable piece of real estate to be using only as a Parking Lot!
From what I have heard, there was an RFP out for this site from the Rockies in the last few weeks. I believe they want mixed use but to maintain the amount of parking currently on the site in any new development. Some of the heavy hitters from around town definitely participated in the RFP.
It would be fantastic if someone built a solid 8 stories or so on that massive 1 block flat lot, caddy corner from Z block.
I really doubt that huge parking lot will be developed in the near future since it is owned by the Denver Metropolitan Major League Baseball Stadium District. It is parking for Coors Field and they apparently really like surface parking lots. It’s a terrible waste of prime real estate.
Wasn’t there some pavilion walking mall project considered for that lot at one time? No reason that a huge parking structure as part of a project couldn’t add additional parking while not leaving us with a massive empty lot that is rarely at full utilization outside of game day. I used to live right there on Wynkoop, and the lot is almost always empty.
It’s definitely not always empty – downtown workers fill this up daily on non-Rockies gamedays. I live in this area. I don’t like surface lots, but this one has a purpose and is used a lot. And it’s surrounded by 2 garages. If you want to do something to help – then get the old needles off the ground and homeless people out of the bushes that face 20th Street.
That surface lot is the VIP parking lot for the Rockies, also they use that lot for concerts & other food events through out the year.
FYI the Stadium District is currently requesting mixed-use development proposals for that parking lot.
Don’t forget about the 2 30-story towers going up over near Speer Blvd by Denver CC. Should be a couple cranes there soon.
Well, as far as parking lots go, that is one of the better looking ones you’ll find downtown. I have to walk past the 2 block disaster zone at 16th Ave and Lincoln and Sherman. What a mess. And to imagine it was once gorgeous mansions. 🙁 Prime real estate. Someone please build something.
