Happy Friday DenverInfill readers! To end the week, we are going to take a quick peek at SkyHouse Denver which is starting to climb up along Broadway.
This week, I am conveniently working a block away from SkyHouse, giving me a great opportunity to step outside and check out the project. The structure is now up to the 10th floor, with fifteen more to go.
If you like tracking projects on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis make sure you check out this project’s webcam. Here is a screenshot from today.
Have a great weekend!
If I’m not mistaken, the Skyhouse is currently about the same height as the old Cosmo Hotel that used to occupy this lot.
If you want to see what some other projects around the country by this developer look like, check them out on the webcam. Alas, a relatively ugly parking garage is likely envisioned for the vacant parcel on Lincoln. Oh well – guess it can’t be perfect.
On the bright side, a single large parking garage can replace a whole bunch of surface-level lots! With the addition of just a few ugly garages, east downtown could obviate it’s need for surface-level parking and open those lots for more high-rises!
Nice. But could be nicer as far as utilizing (density rights). It won’t be long before Denver runs out of ground for possibly supertall buildings and then what, a case of bulking out the core with 30 something story buildings?
I remember reading something years ago about the “Central Business District” zoning being extended by a block or two to allow for the El Jebel tower that got canceled. I wonder if that extra height allowance still stands or if it does with that project? There’s still a wasted few surface lots along Broadway (I’m especially looking at you, Avis car rentals) that could be built up into something spectacular. Man, how cool would it be to get a thousand-footer in Denver? Beat out LA and Houston for tallest skyscraper west of the Mississippi? Ah, I can dream…
It’s a curve! Yay!
