On Downtown Denver’s 150-acre Auraria Campus, the new CU Denver Wellness Center is currently rising at Speer Boulevard and Auraria Parkway. The 85,000-square foot facility will provide a variety of student amenities including a gymnasium, pool, cardio and weight rooms, fitness studios, game rooms, lounges, and a coffee shop. Check out our previous posts for renderings and additional project details.
We’ll work our way around the building, starting with the side facing downtown and ending with the campus side. The CU Denver Wellness Center anchors the corner of Speer Boulevard and Auraria Parkway and contributes much needed urban form to this busy intersection. The main attraction right at the corner will be a three-story rock climbing wall visible through a curtain of glass. That space is taking shape as seen in the third photo below.
The Wellness Center’s glass-enclosed rock-climbing wall will look nice against the backdrop of some of the newest towers in Denver’s evolving skyline.
In the first image below we see the corner of Auraria Parkway and 12th Street. The remaining two images show the 12th Street (campus-facing) side of the new CU Denver Wellness Center.
Finally, we end with a panorama from 11th Street overlooking the soccer field and, from left to right, the MSU Hotel and Hospitality Learning Center/SpringHill Suites, the CU Denver Wellness Center, and the CU Denver Student Commons Building.
The CU Denver Wellness Center is scheduled to be completed by early 2018.
