This is depressing (from today’s Rocky Mountain News): State stuns Auraria, pulls $37.5 million for new science building
On a happier note, this past week DenverInfill world headquarters moved into new digs and the ‘puter is now back up and running, ending the weeklong blog drought! I just wish I had something happier to report.
Now's the time for Bruce Benson to prove his worth as a political wizard. I can't imagine just leaving a huge gash in the campus, but the legislature has never been a friend of Auraria, that's for sure. Hope they can come up with some sort of compromise, and fast.
This is ridiculous. This was the only way for the state to save money?!?! Yank funding from a project allready under construtcion?
You can tell me that this was 100% necessary.
This is absolutely disgusting. Yes, the economy is suffering. Yes, the state needs to save money.
But this just takes an ugly campus and makes it that much more ugly. What makes anyone think its ok to leave a giant pit in the middle of a college campus? I don't get it.
Colorado sucks, no wonder we're 49th in funding for education. I suppose we're giving Mississippi a real race for 50th!
If the state can't find the money for this, does it also mean that there will be no money available for the Colorado Historical Society's move, or for the proposed state office building on Lincoln & Colfax? The dumbest aspect of this is that by pulling the money, they'll have to find even more money later on, as construction costs never go downward over time. Now's the time for Phil Anschutz or someone to step in with a large donation.
THIS DECISION IS SO DISGUSTING I
DONT EVEN HAVE WORDS FOR IT!
We should come together and hold a rally at the capital. This is absolutely disgusting.
Went to Democratic County Convention and heard all our state's Democrats say how important higher education and science is…Now I am left hoping for Bruce Benson to do something. Generally on this blog there is a lot about how a building looks, in all honesty the hole in the ground left in Auraria in minor compared to what that building was suppose to do.I guess I'll just have to drown my sorrows drinking liquor on Sundays. Guess the legislature understands what is important in Colorado more than I do. DISGUSTING.
A building is under construction, then the State pulls the dollars. Just a another example of "You can't trust the Government". What are any other organizations with State funding supposed to do with future construction projects?
I can't believe the state pulled funding. It's already affecting businesses as denverinfill has already relocated. Just goes to show you can't trust anyone over 30.
I do not condone the State for pulling the funding. I believe it to be appalling. But I also find some fault in the UCD. They started construction without securing the funding. Yikes!
Woah, that's pretty irresponsible of the state, to pull funding after construction began, not to mention that this will effect the Denver economy in the long run if we can't keep up a good community college. It makes sense when you see that the head of the appropriations committee is from Grand Junction.
Our leaders are failing our future. The state of Colorado is infamous for underfunding education.
Just to fill everyone in… this decision was reversed today. The funding will come from a tax posed on companies that drill on federal property in the state of CO. I guess all the complaining was heard!
Looks like good news… http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=88771
