Our next public walking tour of the Denver Union Station project is this Saturday, September 15, 2012. Please join us to learn all about the incredible activity that’s happening at and around the historic station. On the tour, we’ll cover the transit infrastructure, the three major public spaces, the restoration of the historic station, and the numerous private-sector mixed-use developments planned or under construction in the area.

Here’s how it works: Head on down to the LoDo side of the historic station at about 9:50 AM—meet at the corner of 17th and Wynkoop. Whoever shows up, that will be our tour group. We’ll start promptly at 10:00 AM and conclude at 11:15 AM at the new light rail station by the Millennium Bridge. The suggested donation for the tour is $10 per person and all proceeds go to the non-profit Student Chapter of the American Planning Association at the University of Colorado Denver, but you are absolutely more than welcome to take the tour whether you make a donation or not. Please join me this Saturday for a fun and informative walk around Denver Union Station… and don’t forget your camera!

Also, this Saturday you have another way of learning more about what’s going on at Denver Union Station. Historic Denver, Inc. and the Denver Architectural Foundation are hosting a “Traveling Through Time” bus tour this Saturday, September 15.  The tour offers an exploration of transportation landmarks past and present here in Denver. The tour starts at Union Station. Dana Crawford of the Union Station Alliance, Jim Johnson of JG Johnson Architects, and Jeff Poorten of Anderson Mason Dale Architects will discuss the plans for the renovation of the historic structure as well as the designs for the new, complimentary wing buildings. The tour will then head east to visit one of Stapleton’s first airplane hangars, Hangar 61. The developers of the project, Larry Nelson and Ruth Falkenberg of 620 Corps, will talk about the unique building that was recently transformed into a growing church. Finally, the tour will conclude at DIA for a discussion of the hotel and transit expansions with Adam Ambro of Gensler Architects. More information about the Traveling Through Time Bus Tour can be found here.

Unfortunately, both my DenverInfill tour and Historic Denver’s tour take place at the same time this Saturday morning, so you can’t attend both. But I hope you will attend one of them and learn more about the exciting progress happening here in Denver!
