Continuing on our Lower Highland development tour, over at 2828 Zuni, construction of the Skyline View Apartments has commenced. As a refresher, this will be a 105-unit apartment building over a 129-space parking garage. Head on over here for a rendering and aerial view of the site.
For this update, I didn’t get up close and personal to the site, which at the moment is your typical construction pit. I took the pictures across the street to give you an idea of what influence this will have on this part of Zuni Street. The building will take up almost a whole half block which will add some much needed density to this part of the Lower Highlands.
The Skyline View Apartments, developed by Canwest LLC, are most likely to be completed by late 2013.
I have noticed the house at the north end with dirt piled up next to it, any idea of what will happen at the corner of 29th and Zuni?
That’s been bugging me too. This is such a weak corner, what with the very suburban-feeling Marriott suite property, built in the late 1970s or early 1980s on the SW corner, and that industrial-looking little school building/parking lot on the NW corner. The redevelopment of the one-story building that includes Green Garage, etc., is fine, but this SE corner could provide a great visual anchor for this intersection. Ultimately, it would be great to see that Marriott property redeveloped entirely. But I suppose it’s probably profitable for the big hotel corporation, so we’re probably stuck with it for quite a while.
The house has now been torn down!
