This weekend I had the opportunity to take an inside look of the B-Street LoHi project, formally known as 1736 Boulder. This 5-story, 73-unit apartment building is expecting to open this month; therefore, this will be the last update covering this project. As per the final update tradition, here are the previous posts for this project:

Lower Highland: 1736 Boulder Update #2

As I mentioned in my previous update, the unique facade is made up of patterned grey metal paneling and brick which looks like nothing else around Downtown Denver. Most of the paneling has since been installed with the exception of one corner.

Now let’s take a look inside! Thanks to Todd Hager, who is one of the developers, for making this possible! The first stop on our tour is the lobby. There will be a TV screen, wall projections, and some open space for a gathering area. A reoccurring theme with these new developments is the incorporation of beetle kill wood. Since this is a very soft wood and cannot be used as flooring, it is applied to walls and ceilings which in turn looks pretty sharp.

Instead of the typical 5-foot wide hallways, which is a common standard in apartment buildings, these hallways are 6 feet wide. After living in a handful of apartment buildings, that extra foot is a noticeable difference! Each unit has a light in front of it with beetle kill wood surrounding the door.

Here are some examples of what the units will look like. Layouts vary by where the unit is current floor and the wood color schemes vary by floor. For example, units on one floor will have lighter floors and darker cabinets whereas units on the next floor will have darker floors and lighter cabinets. There are also ADA friendly units (third picture) where everything has been lowered for easier access to switches and appliances.

All of the building’s amenities are on the 5th floor which include a clubhouse, an outside deck with a fireplace and a fitness room. Since this is a steel structured building, noise will not carry as much to the floors below.

One very positive factor about Lower Highland is the elevation advantage in comparison to Downtown Denver. You would never expect this kind of view off of a 5-story building!

Here is a bonus panorama from one of the 5th story units. Look at all that newly added density down Boulder and Central! Both these images are high-resolution so make sure you click to embiggen.

B-Street LoHi is one of the many apartment buildings around Downtown Denver that is beginning to wrap up construction and open for occupancy. This LEED-silver building is expected to open by August 14th and crews are working around the clock to make it happen.
