The Renaissance Downtown Lofts, a 101-unit affordable housing project built by the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, is starting to make great progress. Back in July, we reported that the site had been fenced off and we caught a glimpse of the project’s progress back in October.
Let’s move in a little closer and check out some aerial views. Since this project will not contain any underground parking, the foundation and first floor are already going vertical.
In these photos, we can see that this takes up a small yet prominent corner along Broadway. There are still surface lots aplenty, but this is a great step forward in developing Arapahoe Square.
Affordable housing is always great to see. It’s a bonus when it helps a neighborhood that is in need of infill!
This will be a great addition to Denver and housing for those in need.
I find it interesting there’s no parking? Is that a calculated assumption that none of these residents will drive?
it has 29 parking spaces
Has it been a calculated decision to put all the housing needs within several blocks of the Denver Rescue Mission? Is it because the land is cheaper? Or because it might be close to “services”? I would think that if every neighborhood was able to share the burden of offering affordable housing projects, then the disbursement of homeless would be more evenly spread throughout the city and not congregated into a smaller subset.
I would agree. A city is more vibrant and shares more through different cultures when housing is mixed. I wouldn’t call homelessness a burden in a neighborhood as it would be an opportunity.
