If you have been in the Cherry Creek area lately, you may have noticed this fairly large drilling rig over on 1st Avenue and Steele Street:
This is a great sign of a new project starting: 71 for-sale condos are now under construction at 155 Steele Street. The small existing retail structure has been torn down, and the surface parking lot has been removed.
Here is a view of the project site along with the area where the 10-story building will go. 155 Steele will contribute to a newly dense part of Cherry Creek.
If you need a refresher, head on over to our announcement post for more details and renderings.
For those so inclined, the announcement post is here: https://denverinfill.com/2016/06/new-cherry-creek-project-155-steele.html
I completely forgot to link back to the announcement post. Thank you for the reminder, the post is fixed!
I wonder if the Cherry Creek shopping area will ever get redevelopment? The area around the Macy’s furniture store (Macy’s is closing stores), the running store and the surrounding parking lot could be a good site for a large mixed use building with stores on the lower levels and condos/offices on the upper levels.
It would be shocking if there wasn’t at least some sort of redevelopment with the mall in the future. It seems inevitable based on the popularity of the neighborhood and the demand for high-end residential in this town. But it would have to happen slowly and organically as smart development slowly replaces outdated mall.
I would love it if somehow the whole thing could just be scraped…replace the street grid, and start over.
The mall will never go anywhere. It is one of the highest grossing malls PSF in the nation. I agree the outparcels around the mall need and will get re-developed over time but it will be slow and steady.
Tower crane base has been installed at street level.
BTW – Love the blog!
