Market Station, the name for the redevelopment of RTD’s former Market Street Station, is ready to begin construction!
Starting tomorrow, September 29, the site will be fenced off with utility work and demolition of the old bus facility soon to follow.
To celebrate this occasion, we are happy to share with you this new rendering, courtesy of Continuum Partners. El Dorado is the lead design architect and BOKA Powell is the architect of record. Dig Studio is handling the streetscape design and Kiewit is the general contractor.
This is the future view of the Market Street side of the development. 16th Street is on the left.
Market Station has been vacant since May 2014 when its replacement, the Bus Concourse at Denver Union Station, opened.
The project includes about 85,000 square feet of retail/restaurant space, 225 apartment homes, and over 90,000 square feet of offices, along with two underground levels for motor vehicle parking.
Market Station is scheduled to be complete by summer of 2019.
Happy to see this move forward. That was becoming quite the black hole along the mall. And it will be good to see the poor trees and what’s left of the landscaping put out of their misery. Had many a good lunch at this little plaza, so to see it slowly deteriorate has been painful.
Too bad they couldn’t integrate the mature trees on the east side into this development. But it will greatly improve that stretch of the 16th St Mall, especially if there is destination retail.
Is there still an activated alleyway as part of this plan?
Any news on the two hotels on the adjacent sites at 17th & Blake and 16th & Market??
Very exciting! This will be a great addition to 16th street. That vacant lot has been full of pigeons and dead trees.
While the uses, massing and materials in this project are nice I’d have to say I’m not a fan of the random different color bricks sprinkled on all the facades.
couldn’t agree more. that brick on the east facade is just…bad… hopefully it’s a product of the rendering and it will look better in the flesh.
One of the city’s most important projects. Glad to see it happen!
This is great, i hope approval happens quickly!
It is approved. Construction is beginning.
Any updates whatsoever on other projects adjacent to this one, such as the hotels at 1701 Blake and 1600 market or the apartments/condos at 1600 Market? Not a peep in the last year.
Whoops, apartments/condos at 18th and Market!
The TCR 18th & Market project begins in December. 11 stories, 305 apartments
One could argue that the 18th & Market project is as important as this one.
