Today we have a quick update on the Hyatt Centric, a 14-story hotel project that will end up providing 263 rooms to Central Downtown. When we last reported on the Hyatt Centric in July, the primary light gauge steel structure was only starting to go up. Present-day, this project is close to topping out. Also, we now have a visual sense of scale this project will provide.
All of the occupiable floors are structurally complete with the mechanical penthouse remaining. Here are a few photos from around the project. Currently, the building is wrapped in tarp for the facade work that is now underway.
The Hyatt Centric is expected to be complete around mid next year.
Wow, look at that blank wall.
I hate the “common wall” thing in Denver. I haven’t seen it in many other cities and it does make a huge difference in terms of the overall aesthetic appeal throughout the city.
I guess the reasoning behind the ordinance kind of makes sense (assumes any windows or ornamentation may be covered up by future high-rise development), however in a city like Denver that skews towards lower-to-mid rise buildings the common wall looms disgustingly large. The Tru Hotel building they just put up by the convention center is another glaring example.
Since the Ghost Building is there I don’t think anything will ever cover that blank wall. Maybe it’s an opportunity for a mural, maybe a nice landscape scenery of the Sangre de Cristos behind the Great Sand Dunes.
Hah, I was actually referring to the future blank wall on the new building which we can see being filled in… but that other blank wall by the Ghost building is bad too 🙂
Huge fan of the mural idea. I’ve been seeing more of them around the city which I appreciate.
It’s odd, but I never notice that blank wall at street level. The Ghost Building underneath is tall enough to dominate, with that setback. (I miss the Rocky Mountain Cafe and their blue plate special.)
Just a note of interest, the little old 3 story stone building in the last picture was dismantled from either 14th or 15th street and then reconstructed in the present location awhile back.
I used to eat at Rocky Mountain Diner and had no idea. Thanks for that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_Building
What’s this thing supposed to look like when finished?
Was something torn down on this site, just prior to construction? Or, is this actually “infill”?
This was an empty lot for decades. Here is our initial post with renderings: https://denverinfill.com/2019/11/new-project-hyatt-centric.html
It’s supposed to look like a Hyatt Centric Hotel. I think they’re right on track.
Sorry to see all those boarded-up windows.
Ahh thanks for mentioning the ghost building and the wiki link I am educated. 🙂
