Work keeps trekking along at the Colorado Convention Center Expansion Project. When we first visited the project back in October, a portion of the parking garage facade was taken down, and two tower cranes were erected over the project. Present-day, a large crawler crane has joined the crane group on the roof, which is quite the sight to behold.
While the project is a bit difficult to see from the street, we have a few higher vantage points to share, which give insight into how much progress is taking place. The steel structure for the roof overhang is complete, and the first vertical steel beams on the perimeter are going vertical.
When viewing the project from the street level, you can see the steel overhang for the new expansion, with a nice view of the two tower cranes on the edge of the project.
Completion of the Colorado Convention Center Expansion Project is projected for late 2023. Head on over to the DenverGov site for additional information and presentations on the project.

Too bad it’s not covered with natural elements and/or solar panels.
It normally is covered with solar panels. (You can see them on the earth view map above.) I’m guessing they’ll be reinstalled once this expansion project is complete.
Looks like they decided tk save some money on this upgrade, compared to what the design looked like before hand.
Nice to see this expansion, but the new and existing buildings have nasty looking roofs, especially given their visibility from so many taller buildings nearby. A classy and sustainable idea would be to add a nice 6” deep vegetated roof covered in sedum on the whole project.
I like how the pointed roofs play off each other. A green roof would be nice on the flat portions, like the Javits Center in NYC. I thought Denver voters passed a green roof ordinance some time ago. Inspite of the huge expanse of roof I think this building does a decent job at the street level.
They did but there’s multiple compliance options besides just providing a green roof. Not sure if this project is subject to those requirements or not.

Perhaps a green roof, but not solar panels.
