Today is a great day for Downtown Denver! 1144 Fifteenth Street has officially broken ground! Here is a photo from this morning. Stay tuned tonight for some more photos from the ceremony.
June 10, 8:30am EDIT:
Here are a few pictures, up close and personal, of the model that was at the ground-breaking ceremony.
We here at DenverInfill are extremely excited to see this tower rise over the next 31 months. It has already been a great journey for both us and Hines as this project has evolved into something that will change Denver’s skyline forever. Make sure you visit the previous posts of this project for more details and renderings!
Bunch of old white dudes in suits! This industry is funny.
No kidding. The real groundbreaking begins when some burly Mexican carves through the blacktop with a jackhammer like a hot knife through butter. These guys just dipped their shovels into a sandbox. Anyway, woohoo!
Well said.
That’s ridiculous – there is one black and one asian gentleman in the picture…others you simply cannot tell. And what’s your point?
Sounds a bit like you have a narrative and looking for a problem – these people worked their a$$e$ off to make a building like this possible.
Any chance you have active web cam links for any of these new projects?
Which one knows how to use a shovel best?
OK… but for the uninformed, why is it a great day? Is this some special project or something other than the typical infill project?
Tallest office building built in downtown in 30 years.
That photo is hilarious in so many ways. Now let’s get the real shovels in the real dirt.
It’s gonna be a lot of fun watching this one rise!!
Well without those 14 “white” men in suits, the 50+ “mexicans” wouldn’t be putting any shovels in the ground. I take it was a joke but I don’t think race really matters at all here.
So glad to see this actually happening. To be honest, i thought this had less of a chance of being built than Tabor II. Any word on that?
Ken’s right. It’s a milestone.
I think this slim sides of this building is gonna look amazing
Finally, a bold piece of architecture that stands out from the boxes around it. Reflective, like a crystal. And totally different at night. Impossible to ignore, so some will love it, and some will hate it. Hines has already given us the signature Cash Register tower — so what will be this one’s name?
It does need a good name. Crystal Mountain Building? The Spire is next door, so this could be ‘The Gem.’ Lots of potential names that could come out of this.
It resembles an ice cream sandwich. “The Sammich” has a ring to it.
WOW.. what an awesome design. So totally NOT Denver, which is so totally refreshing. Looks like something you’d find in Dallas, Houston, or even NYC. The crown is so geometrically overwhelming, I’m still trying to make sense of it.
Thank you Hines for bringing modernism to downtown Denver. Makes the surrounding buildings look dirty, old, boxy and boring.
