Today we have a big photo-filled update on 16 Chestnut, the 410,000 square foot office tower under construction next to the Millennium Bridge and the Union Station light rail platforms. 16 Chestnut will be mostly occupied by DaVita as an expansion of their headquarters across the street, with remaining space available for other tenants. The 19-story tower was designed by Gensler and is being developed by East West Partners and Invesco Real Estate. Saunders is the builder.
Let’s start our photo tour at the corner of 16th and Chestnut and work our way counterclockwise around the building…
Next, around to the 17th Street side of the tower facing the Chestnut Pavilion:
Rounding the corner we get to the side facing the Union Station light rail platforms and where the 16th Street Mall shuttles will resume boarding once construction on 16 Chestnut is finished:
And the fourth side facing the Millennium Bridge and the existing DaVita headquarters building:
Let’s conclude with a couple of shots from Commons Park. As you can see, 16 Chestnut has a few floors to go before topping off.
That’s all for 16 Chestnut for the time being, but we’ll be back!
I like the color and texture of the precast concrete(?) on the base, however I don’t like how obvious the edges of the panels are. Otherwise great form, and the glass is stunning.
Tom, I also like the color and texture of the precast concrete on the base, but I don’t like the random vertical and horizontal distribution of the openings. Some openings are skinny slits, others are full vertical height, and horizontally it’s a mess, with some openings longer than others and no symmetry to the placement. This seems to be another example of the architecture-du-jour of random window placements. See: Hotel Born, The Confluence, and Market Station.
On the website for 5he building there is talk of a bike storage garage. Anyone know more details on this? Will it be open to only tenants or public at large? There have been rumors for a while about a bike facility in the Union Station area. Sure need it.
