An important housing development, the Saint Francis Apartments at Cathedral Square, will provide permanent housing in the form of 50 one-bedroom apartments for people who are currently homeless. The six-story project on Washington Street in the Capitol Hill neighborhood broke ground in June 2016 and has been making good progress since. The development is a joint effort of the Saint Francis Center on Curtis Street and St. John’s Cathedral, which is around the corner on 14th Avenue between Clarkson and Washington. Humphries Poli is the architect and Alliance Construction is the general contractor.

We stopped by recently and took a few photos of the new building, which is nearing completion.

The ground floor will include the lobby, the building manager’s apartment, and a few vehicle parking spaces. The top floor provides community space (both indoor and outdoor) for residents, laundry facilities, a dining room, and a computer lab. The three images above show views of the project looking south plus a close-up of the ground floor along Washington Street. The two images below show the alley and south sides of the building.

The Saint Francis Apartments at Cathedral Square should welcome its new residents within the next few months.
