I wasn’t able to attend the grand opening this past weekend, but the completion of the new Museum of Contemporary Art-Denver building at 15th and Delgany was a great moment for Downtown Denver!
Next up: the demolition of the existing one-story building, the Museum’s brief home called Temporary Contemporary, across Delgany from the new MCA-D to make way for the proposed Komorebi project–a great addition to Downtown Denver’s Central Platte Valley district.
Komorebi's going to be a neat addition to the streetscape. I especially love the pool over the entrance idea. Fun stuff, that.
On the museum, is it going to light up really bright similar to the rendering?
From what I hear, demolition of the building that is currently at the Komorebi site is due to begin in February…
God people why are you posting shit about the Komorebi on this post? Can anyone answer my question about the lighting @ CMA|D?
The MCA is lit up at night but not that blue hue like in the rendering. Its worth a look to judge for yourself whether you are impressed with it. I think it's a pretty classy look.
Anonymous: Because the komorebi demolition is specifically mentioned in the blog post. This is a completely appropriate place to post information about it. Right?
The MCA looks very similar to the new gray-glass rendering – there wasn't a version of that one at night. The building doesn't light up the same way as in the blue glass rendering, but the way that it does light up definitely isn't disappointing… it's just different. You can see a lot more of the internal structure at night than you can in the day.
The building during both day and night is totally bad ass – go check it out! It's the exact opposite of the Libeskind building of the Denver Art Museum. Adjaye's museum is restrained, minimal, and contemplative, where Libeskind's is overstated, and expressive. They make for a great contrast in museum design.
^^^Easy there, anon-tiger 11:19…if I knew, I'd say! 🙂
I would also like to know.
It will shaine as bright as a thousands suns. Komorebi.
I'm working out of town folks so I can't really go and check it out. I liked to know how things are looking downtown. I'm excited to get back.
God, everyday i get on here and am like "maybe today the announcement about a sweet 70-80 story tower will be posted" …. yet it never is 🙁
11:29 Granted that we could use a couple, I wouldn't want us to have a huge like Houston or L.A with a bunch of tall buildings but a nasty looking downtown. We definitely need a lot of these medium projects. Thats what makes San Fran so awesome is that it changes up a lot.
I live at Wewatta Transfer next to the Komorebi lot. They have asked us to meet with them to try and deside what to do with the lot between our buildings… maybe a nice courtyard!
