As a follow up to my post of two days ago about the historic Steel/Fontius building, Dave Dyer sent me another image from the Steel Company’s newsletter—this time of the September 3, 1921 issue, showing an artist’s rendering of the “proposed” Steel Building. Thank you again, Dave. This is good stuff.
By the way, I have it on good authority that the correct pronunciation of “Fontius” is fon-shus, not fon-tee-us.
Yeah, yeah, I was just saying how I've heard it pronounced around town. Herb and herbs is all that is. Anyway, it's a moot point now, the name is long gone, left to the annals of the Colorado History Museum.
It's great to see a bit of Denver's history. Thanks for putting the work into it yourself. And of course thanks to Dave for sharing it with you so we can all catch a glimpse of the past.
I love the logo on the newsletter! Very post-industrialist.
very cool! i love stuff like this documenting denver's short and rapid growth.
What the hell is a steelite?
I notice that the windows are very different on the actual building from this drawing.
