Now that Market Station is out of the ground, brisk vertical progress is being made all around the project site. Even though we visited the site only a few weeks ago, there are already some new structural elements coming into play.
Let’s start off by looking at the project from the 16th Street Mall side. This side will feature two 10-story buildings, roughly the same height as its neighbors 16M, SugarCube, and 16 Market Square. With work beginning on the third floor, these buildings already have quite the presence along the 16th Street Mall.
The multiple five-story buildings that will wrap around Market and 17th Street are also making great vertical progress. These buildings will feature the residential component of the project with a four-story wood frame structure over a single story concrete podium.
Wrapping up, here is one last photo of Market Station from the corner of 17th and Blake Street. This corner of the project is the furthest behind but is now starting to go vertical above the street-level. This great view of 1144 Fifteenth will soon be covered up by a handsome brick building.
It is incredibly exciting to see all the vertical action take place on this (mostly) full city block!
Hard to believe they would cheapen the quality of build on this important project by using wood for the upper 4 stories of the residential portion. Oh well.
When all is said and done, you will never know it was wood framed. In addition, a lot of historic buildings in LoDo are wood framed as well.
Unless you’re living inside the units. Those folks will definitely know it was built with wood-framing. But these aren’t condos with condo-quality demands so it is what it is. Will look great on the outside when finished. All things considered, this is more needed housing for LoDo and is a part of a pretty cool project that’ll benefit the city.
Hello! Thank you for your comment on our project. We continue to look for more opportunities to use wood structure in all our projects because the carbon footprint is so much lower.
Agree w/ GC. Building the top 4 stories in wood in downtown Denver is absurd. The fact they got this permitted speaks poorly of the permit office. The fact the asked to build it in wood speaks poorly of the design firm. It’s all about $. Sticks are 20% less cost of metal framing and generally considered easier to build with.
I guess the Emerson street apartment fire has been forgotten already. On 17th st, we see other responsible firms building their multilevel apartment projects with steel framing.
In the last 20 years, has there been more consequential full block developments than the 3 currently underway right now? Market St; Block 162, and the Rockies showcase..?
Well, except for union station and Riverfront Park, but my point is; well not really sure what the point is. It’s a great time for Denver.
