I've been wandering downtown the last 3 days, and the energy has been awesome. It's also made me think about the future of the 16th Street Mall. Presumably over then next 30 years or so Denver will grow to the size such that the Mall will be utilized to this extent on a regular basis. If that's the case, than this week has demonstrated to me that the shuttles should be removed (perhaps run down 15th and 17th as a circular) and the Mall should be made all pedestrian. There were many times where the crowds made it so that I (and many others) had to walk in the bus lanes.

I agree about the energy.
I'm actually going to miss it when it's over.

wow! what an amazing week. i was fortunate enough to go to the convention wednesday and thursday nights and it was INCREDIBLE! my only complaints were that they directed everyone back downtown from Invesco north of elitches, around the aquarium, and then finally down speer. it was highly inefficient and unorganized. also, i wish Obama gave a small thank you to Denver for hosting the convention in his speech. but overall, it was fabulous and somewhat proves that we can handle an olympics in 10 years!

Eric, I was at Mile High Stadium too, and it was an amazing time. I'm not sure what you're talking about being diverted north around Eliches. I was able to take a straight shot under the highway, past the light rail station, and down walnut through the Auraria campus to get back downtown.

I agree, it was a great week for Denver—and a GREAT week to be in Denver!
The cops were a little spooky, and there were some opportunities missed, but overall a really fantastic experience.
I too was hoping for a mention of Denver in his speech, but I must say I got a little thrill when he said "I'll see you all at Mile High Stadium tomorrow night!" on Wednesday.
[grumble] I know, it's petty and old-school, and we probably couldn't have built the new stadium without selling the naming rights, but I just hate it. [end grumble]
Now, if Obama wins, they'll be talking about "Denver 2008" for years to come. How cool is that!

David, the biggest detriment to the mall shuttle movement wasn't the people, it was the danged mountees! And I never saw them actually utilized except to slowly pace around town and check out the women.
Anyone know what city the dirt bike cops came from? Was that their standard bike or did they just run out of motorcycles?
